Hungarian Documents for German Authorities: Certified Translation That Gets Accepted
Whether you're starting a new job, getting married, or having your degree recognized in Germany, your Hungarian documents need a beglaubigte Übersetzung. Our sworn translators deliver certified translations that German authorities accept without question.
You usually receive your quote within a few hours, often sooner.
Why does it need to be certified?
German authorities require translations made by a vereidigter Übersetzer, a translator officially sworn in by a German court. This is different from Hungary, where OFFI (the Hungarian National Translation Office) handles certified translations. A regular translation, even if done by a professional, will be rejected at the Standesamt, Ausländerbehörde, or university. Our sworn translators provide the stamp and signature that German offices require.

Understanding certification: Germany vs. Hungary
One of the biggest confusions for people moving between Hungary and Germany is understanding which type of certified translation is accepted where. The systems are different, and using the wrong one can mean rejection and delays.
For use in Germany
German authorities require translations by a vereidigter Übersetzer (sworn translator) or ermächtigter Übersetzer (authorized translator) registered in Germany. The Hungarian Embassy in Berlin explicitly directs people to use German sworn translators for documents needed in Germany. An OFFI translation from Hungary is typically not accepted by German authorities.
For use in Hungary
Hungarian authorities generally require translations from OFFI (Országos Fordító és Fordításhitelesítő Iroda), the Hungarian National Translation Office, or translations certified by a Hungarian consulate. OFFI specifically warns that "official translation" is not a legal term and doesn't replace a proper certified translation.
Good to know
If you need your document accepted in both countries, you may need two translations: one by a German sworn translator for German authorities, and one from OFFI for Hungarian authorities. We can advise you on exactly what you need. Just mention both destinations when you request your quote.
What about the Apostille?
For many cross-border procedures, especially marriages, court decisions, and civil status matters, you'll also need an Apostille on your Hungarian document. This is an international certification that proves the document is genuine. The Apostille must be on the original document before translation, so the translator can include it. The Hungarian Embassy in Berlin can help obtain Apostilles on Hungarian documents.
What we need from you
Getting started is simple. Here's what helps us give you an accurate quote and fast turnaround:
- A clear scan or photo of your Hungarian document (all pages, including any stamps or seals)
- Information about where you'll use the translation (which authority, which country)
- Whether you already have an Apostille, or need guidance on getting one
- Your deadline, if you have an upcoming appointment
Scan is enough
You don't need to send your original document. A clear photo from your phone works perfectly for the quote and translation. The translator notes that the translation was made from a copy. German authorities accept this.

Your questions answered
Delivery usually takes 3 to 6 working days; it may vary depending on the language and scope. Your personal delivery time is stated in your quote. This includes the PDF by email and the stamped original by post. The exact time depends on document length and complexity. If you have an upcoming appointment at the Ausländerbehörde or Standesamt, let us know when you request your quote, and we'll tell you if your deadline is realistic.
Yes. Our translations are made by sworn translators (vereidigte Übersetzer) officially registered with German courts. They're accepted by all German authorities, including the Standesamt, Ausländerbehörde, universities, and recognition authorities. For use in Hungary, different requirements apply. We can advise you.
No. A clear scan or phone photo is sufficient for both the quote and the translation itself. The translator certifies that the translation was made from a copy. German authorities accept this. Keep your original safe at home.
It depends on the purpose. For marriages, court decisions, and some civil status matters, German authorities often require an Apostille on the Hungarian original. The Apostille should be obtained before translation, so it can be translated along with the document. The Hungarian Embassy can help arrange Apostilles. Not sure if you need one? Ask the authority where you'll submit the document, or mention it when you request your quote.
You pay after you receive your translation. We send the completed translation with an invoice. You then have 14 days to pay by bank transfer. No prepayment, no credit card needed. You see exactly what you're getting before any money changes hands.
