Why does it need to be certified?

German authorities require what's called a beglaubigte Übersetzung, a certified translation made by a vereidigter Übersetzer (sworn translator officially appointed by a German court). Regular translations, even by native speakers, won't be accepted. Our certified translations include the translator's stamp, signature, and registration number, exactly what the Ausländerbehörde or embassy needs to process your application.

When You Need Armenian Documents Translated

Armenian citizens and people with Armenian roots living in Germany typically need certified translations for these situations. Each requires specific documents, and German authorities are very particular about proper certification and, often, an Apostille.

Family Reunion (Spouse)

Bringing your spouse from Armenia to Germany? The German embassy in Yerevan and your local Ausländerbehörde require civil status documents with certified German translations.

Family Reunion (Children)

For children joining parents in Germany, the embassy requires legalized birth certificates and proof of custody, all with German translations.

Naturalization

Applying for German citizenship (Einbürgerung)? The Einbürgerungsbehörde needs proof of your identity and civil status with certified translations.

Degree Recognition

Want your Armenian university degree recognized in Germany? Whether through Anabin or a professional recognition body, you need certified translations of your academic documents.

Apostille Requirements for Armenian Documents

Here's something many people don't realize: Armenia is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention. This means Armenian public documents (birth certificates, marriage certificates, diplomas) need an Apostille, not full diplomatic legalization, before German authorities will accept them.

The German Embassy in Yerevan confirms that Armenian documents require an Apostille for official use in Germany. The Apostille must be obtained in Armenia before translation.

  • Get the Apostille from the relevant Armenian authority (typically the Ministry of Justice or Ministry of Foreign Affairs)
  • Send us both the document and the Apostille
  • We translate everything into German as one package
  • Submit the complete set to the German authority

Already in Germany?

If you're already living in Germany and need an Apostille on Armenian documents, you may be able to authorize someone in Armenia to obtain it for you, or use a document service. We're happy to advise on the best approach for your situation.

Soviet-Era Documents from Armenia

Many Armenians have older documents issued during the Soviet period, when Armenia was the Armenian SSR. These documents might be in Russian, Armenian, or both. German authorities sometimes have questions about these older certificates.

The good news: Soviet-era birth certificates, marriage certificates, and educational documents from Armenia are generally still valid. However, you may encounter these situations:

  • Some authorities prefer newer Armenian certificates (re-issued versions)
  • Name spellings may differ between old documents and current passports
  • Russian-language documents need translation from Russian, not Armenian
  • Apostille procedures may require verification of old document formats

Name spelling differences

Armenian names can be transliterated into Latin script in different ways. If your passport spells your name differently than it appears on older documents, let us know. We can include a note in the translation explaining the variation, which helps avoid questions from German officials.

If you have Soviet-era documents and aren't sure whether they'll be accepted, send us a scan. We'll let you know whether a new certificate from Armenian authorities might be recommended, and whether your document needs to be translated from Armenian or Russian.

What We Need From You

Getting your Armenian documents translated is straightforward. Here's what to prepare:

  • A clear scan or photo of your Armenian document (smartphone quality is fine)
  • If you have an Apostille, include that too
  • Let us know the purpose (visa, naturalization, degree recognition) so we use the right terminology
  • Mention any name spelling variations between documents

You don't need to send originals

A scan is sufficient for the translation. You'll need to present your original Armenian documents (with Apostille) at your appointment with the German authority, but we work from digital copies. This saves time and avoids postal risks.

Your Questions Answered

How long does a certified Armenian to German translation take?

Standard delivery is 3 to 6 business days. You'll receive the PDF by email first, followed by the stamped original by post. If you need to obtain an Apostille in Armenia first, plan additional time for that step, but the translation itself is usually the fastest part of the process.

Can I send a scan, or do you need my original Armenian document?

A clear scan or photo is sufficient for the translation. You don't need to mail your original. The translator notes in the certification that the translation was made from a copy, which is accepted by German authorities. You'll need to show your originals at your appointment with the Ausländerbehörde or embassy.

Will German authorities accept your translation of my Armenian documents?

Yes. Our translations are made by sworn translators (vereidigte Übersetzer) officially appointed by German courts. They're accepted by the Ausländerbehörde, Standesamt, Einbürgerungsbehörde, German embassies, and all other German authorities. The translation includes the translator's stamp, signature, and registration number.

When do I pay for my translation?

You pay after you receive your translation. We send the completed translation first, along with an invoice. You then have 14 days to transfer the amount by bank transfer. No prepayment, no credit card needed.

Does my Armenian birth certificate or marriage certificate need an Apostille?

Usually, yes. Because Armenia and Germany are both members of the Hague Apostille Convention, Armenian public documents require an Apostille for official use in Germany. Get the Apostille in Armenia first, then have both the document and Apostille translated together. Some authorities may have specific exceptions, so check the requirements for your particular case.
