About the Apostille
Some authorities, especially Standesämter for marriage or Einbürgerungsbehörden for naturalization, may require an Apostille on your birth certificate. This confirms the document's authenticity under the Hague Convention. The Jobcenter typically does not require an Apostille. Ask your specific authority beforehand whether you need one, as obtaining an Apostille from Ukraine takes additional time.
Common mistakes to avoid
We see these errors regularly. Knowing them in advance saves you time and frustration:
- Using a Ukrainian notarial translation: German authorities require translations by translators sworn in Germany, not Ukraine. A Ukrainian notary stamp does not count here.
- Submitting only the translation: Authorities need the translation together with the original document or an officially certified copy. The translation alone is not enough.
- Inconsistent name spellings: Different transliterations from Cyrillic (e.g., "Oleksandr" vs. "Olexander") cause problems with passports and residence permits. We ensure consistency across all your documents.
- Forgetting to ask about Apostille: Not checking requirements beforehand means delays if you suddenly need to obtain an Apostille from Ukraine.
