ECTS and grade conversion: what translators can and cannot do
One of the most common questions we receive: Can you convert my grades or credits into another system?
The clear answer: No, and here's why. As sworn translators, we are legally required to translate exactly what appears on your document. We cannot interpret, adjust, or convert grades or credit points. A 2.3 remains a 2.3. 30 credits stay 30 credits.
This isn't a limitation of our service. It's how certified translation works. According to FU Berlin, there is no universally recognised grid to convert ECTS and other credit systems. The conversion is done by:
- The receiving university's Prüfungsamt or admissions office
- Credential evaluation services
- Recognition authorities like Anabin or ZAB

In einem Transcript of Records werden die Studien- und Prüfungsleistungen eines Studierenden dokumentiert. Es ermöglicht, sich eine Übersicht über die besuchten Kurse und Module, die erhaltenen ECTS-Credits, die ECTS-Noten und die Prüfungsnoten zu verschaffen.
Das Transcript of Records hat verschiedene Verwendungsmöglichkeiten: Zum einen soll mit ihm die Weitergabe der Studiendaten eines Studierenden an eine andere Hochschule (auch im Ausland im Fall von Auslandssemestern) erleichtert werden. Zum anderen trägt es zur Vergleichbarkeit und Transparenz der erbrachten Leistungen zwischen den verschiedenen Universitäten bei. Neben dem Hochschulwechsel kann das Transcript of Records auch eine Rolle beim Wechsel des Studienfachs, als Leistungsnachweis bei BAföG-Angelegenheiten oder bei der Bewerbung um einen Masterstudienplatz spielen.
